Nearly 500 Pounds Collected Along With Local Civic Organizations
THOMASTON, CT — Ward Leonard CT LLC held an Operation Shoebox charity drive recently, collecting donated items for our troops deployed outside of the United States. Area civic organizations such as the Thomaston American Legion and the Thomaston Rotary Club contributed greatly towards the cause.
This is the second annual Operation Shoebox initiated by Ward Leonard, raising a total of 481 pounds of goods to be distributed to our troops. The Thomaston American Legion held a drop-off point for the drive, helping to gather collections from local residents. A substantial donation was received from the Thomaston Rotary Club. Donations such as snacks, personal care items, board games and letters of thanks in support of our soldiers overseas were collected.
“We continue supporting our troops deployed around the world with the items they have requested and appreciate all the support we get from our wonderful supporters! Without the help from our communities here in the USA we wouldn’t be able to get the much needed support to our troops!” said Operation Shoebox Founder and President, Mary Harper.
Started in 2003, Operation Shoebox is an organization which was founded in order to raise morale and let the men and women defending our country know that they are cared about. Based in Belleview, Florida, Operation Shoebox has over 1300 dedicated volunteers in three locations and is dependent upon people all across the country who donate their time, money and assistance in accomplishing the mission. Without them, the organization would not be able to accomplish what they do, according to the Operation Shoebox web site.
Ward Leonard President Michael Clute said of the drive: “The Ward Leonard Team has prided itself over many decades in providing our armed forces with mission-critical power transmission and control solutions to sustain their efforts in the most demanding global environments. Our humble, yet enthusiastic, support of Operation Shoebox today is just another way for us to individually and collectively support and honor those that selflessly commit themselves every day to defending our nation’s interests and way of life.”
