When the Oil & Gas industry demanded a high performance 400HP form wound motor that would withstand rigorous use, prolonged continuous duty and severe environments with less burnouts than had been traditionally accepted as “normal”, Ward Leonard went back to its roots.
The result: the WL12BB040 inverter-rated AC induction 400HP form wound motor that can last for up to 5 years and 100,000 hours of continuous duty — and certification as the industry’s coolest running motor. Featuring optimized copper-to-steel ratios and improved coil slot and bar geometries, the WL12BB040 is constructed with nodular cast iron, withstands high shock and vibration conditions, features certified Class H insulation and delivers a maximum temperature rise of 95°C.
Additionally, by utilizing a range of our proprietary technologies to increase power density, the motor is able to achieve up to 600HP within its same standard frame size — an impressive 50% increase — without requiring any change in application specifications.

Load Testing Facilities
To provide our customers with the optimal motor and generator maintenance, repair and recertification capabilities, we have outfitted both our Texas and Louisiana locations with state-of-the-art dyno testing facilities that are capable of performing factory equivalent full load testing—and are equipped with powerful 2,500 horsepower regeneration drive systems.
We handle generators up to 20 Megawatts, AC motors up to 2500HP and DC motors up to 3000HP, in horizontal and vertical configurations. And because our customers can’t always be on-site to watch testing, each facility also has installed a unique 4-camera live feed system for “anytime / anywhere” real-time viewing from any web-enabled device.
